Here is a place so important, really needs no introduction. It is not the Clift and Clift Hotel, is just Clift. A famous and popular hotel owned by his Commission in 1913, was acquired and transformed in 1996 by the aesthetic and cultural impresario, Ian Schrager. Schrager, best known for trendy nightclubs Studio 54 and Palladium and high profile boutique hotels like the Royalton in New York and Los Angeles Mondrian sophisticated, enlisted the formidable talents of internationally renowned designer Philippe Starck to update Clift in a manner that would maintain his celebrity status and add a new spin hot.


The lobby, with its 25 foot high ceilings, polished plaster walls and Italian Italian Pietra Serena limestone floors, is your portal to another world. Catering for all events is originally from Clift restaurant, the Velvet Room, a fascinating place to eat, drink and fun. Bounty from producers within 100 miles of San Francisco, finds its way into the culinary repertoire of Chef Wardhaugh's: Fulton Valley Organic Chicken soup and forging mushrooms, grilled Zuckerman Farms asparagus with Point Reyes Blue Cheese, Poached Pheasant Egg and Marshall honeycomb, and Bellwether Farms ricotta ravioli are just a few examples. Personalized menus for the event are also available.
